City of Blairsville, Georgia
The City of Blairsville recognized the need to upgrade their existing water distribution system in the downtown area. After learning of the Georgia DOT’s plans to repave US 129/SR11 through downtown, Blairsville Officials decided to make the necessary upgrades prior to the paving project. The project consists of approximately 7,000 linear feet of 12” ductile iron pipe. The new pipe replaces the previous 6” and 8” water mains which have been in place since the late 1940’s. The project also includes the utilization of trenchless technology by horizontal directional drilling the 12” water main under areas congested with aged trees and their associated root growth, and existing sidewalks. The completed project ensures adequate water flows for future growth while providing a pedestrian-friendly environment for the downtown area.
The City of Blairsville recognized the need to extend its water system along Old Blue Ridge Highway in order to create a loop in the City’s water system, thereby increasing flow and pressure, and creating redundant waterline routes into an industrial and commercial area. The project consists of the extension of approximately 9,600 linear feet of 12” waterlines, along Old Blue Ridge Highway, a 100 LF installation of the water line on an existing bridge over the Nottely River and connection to an existing 10-inch waterline at the Blairsville Airport Regional Industrial Park. The completed project ensures adequate water flows and pressure, redundancy, and improved fire protection to the Blairsville Airport Regional Industrial Park.
