City of Helen, White County, Georgia-Evalution
2002 - 0.4 MGD groundwater system. Principals were involved in evaluating the City’s four ground water wells with elevated iron and manganese levels as well as the water distribution system that exhibited high amounts of unaccountable water. EMI completed a cost estimate and recommended the City install filtration equipment in two of their wells. By installing the filters the City has been able to operate their system well within the GA EPD drinking water standards. Additionally, EMI recommended and the City replaced outdated water meters and installed a telemetry system to monitor well operation in conjunction with tank levels. The City has significantly reduced their unaccounted water as well as increased revenue from water sales.
2011 - 0.4 MGD wastewater treatment plant LAS with aerated lagoons. EMI assisted Helen in evaluating the City’s LAS to include two aerated lagoons, and spray-fields. EMI completed a cost estimate with recommendations and deficiency repairs at the treatment facility to include replacing inefficient diffusers and effluent spray-field pumps as well as replacing the manual bar screen with an automated screen.
